Deliverence

A friend I grew up with/ went to school with died last week. She was 28 my age. She died from the complications of long term anorexia. At one time I too gave into such thought patterns and became addicted. But I persevered, formed new habits and became "delivered" as a christian view point would suggest. But really, the term deliverance means to be freed from the bondage of slavery. Everyday I am bound by the choices presented by free will; some morally correct-others not so. So in fact, I am not delivered but rather I am maintaining some form of half deliverence in this free willed life. Yet my friend who is now gone, is truly delivered...from addiction and the common struggles of life.

My high school friend was an avid competitor....she has won. She succeeded in carrying out the actions, obsessions and thought processes of anorexia. But as one visit I recall she begged and promised to strive for deliverance from her addiction through life. She has succeeded (though in death)and I rejoice in her deliverance though her memory will persist of a brilliant mind and a very caring individual who constantly seemed to seek out those in need of care and atension; which she gave unselfishly.
